Problem :

Amplitude’s old auth flow used a dated modal sitting on top of a fake dashboard, which distracted users from the core task and felt off brand. Depending on the scenario - new vs returning, invited vs self serve, SSO vs email - users saw slightly different and sometimes half updated components. That inconsistency created a janky first impression and risked undermining trust before people even reached the product.

Solution :

I designed a clean, focused sign in and sign up experience backed by a reusable component set that handled all entry paths in a consistent way. We removed the noisy dashboard backdrop, simplified copy, and applied the same visual system and interaction patterns across new accounts, invites, and SSO. The result was a calm, modern front door that made it obvious what to do next.

Impact :

In A/B tests, the new flow improved sign up conversion by 11% over baseline. It also gave Amplitude a much more credible first touchpoint, aligning the entry experience with the quality of the core product.
